Hi,

As we purchased a new software for Time management which use Oracle as a DB and as we don't have so much employee, I decided to use the Oracle 10g Express Edition, which is enough for our need and free.
The problem is that the Express Edition don't let specify a SID during install, the default one is 'XE'.
The problem is that the software want a specific SID, and there is apparently no way to change this behaviour. So i need to change the Oracle SID.
I found something related on AskTom (http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:4443411101581883::::P11_QUESTION_ID:634671569269), but it refer to Oracle 8, and as many tools have change, i can't do this step by step in Oracle 10. Note that I'm a System Admin, and not a DBA, so i only know basics of Oracle.
It's quite urgent, so i really need your help.

Thanks,

Nico

If you want to have a specific SID then you can't use Express Edition, you have to use another one (Standard or Entreprise... depending on your needs).

Thanks,

I then moved to MaxDB which is also compatible with the software.
