Hi, I am Hariharan Krishnamurthy from India. I have two queries. We are having Windows 2000 Server ( Central Server ) where we installed Oracle8i in that. Now I want to apply for Online backup strategy in that. In SQL*PLUS> if use the backup command (e.g. Alter Tablespace System Begin Backup) then I am getting an Oracle Error (Ora-01123). Saying that "Cannot Start Online Backup; Media Recovery Not Enabled".
Second Query:
I have installed Oracle Management Server in the Central Server. But in the Services It is not starting automatically. it is showing following message on the screen.
"Could Not Start OracleOraHome8iManagementServerService on Local Computer. The Service did not return an Error. This could be an internal Windows Error or an Internal Service Error. If the problem persists, contact System Administrator"
In fact the above error I am getting on Stand alone machine where I installed PersonalOracle8i. That machine OS is Win'2k Professional.
When I try access Oracle Enterprise Manager (Console) it is showing the OMS Not avilable or Not configure properly. Please clarify this doubt let me give a solution.

BACKUP
Your database is not running in archive mode
Oracle Management Server
Please check <ORACLE_HOME>/sysman/log/oms.nohup
file. From this file you come to know that why you are
unable to start OMS.
