Hi,
I m a beginner in Oracle.
What is the exact meaning of mounting the database?

database mounting means suppose if u installed oracle server on unix ,so root is the main directory on unix everything has to be under root as a directory so under root u have to mount the oracle ,mounting is nothing but attching oracle to your root directory
,thats why everything we start with root like /etc,/bin etc...
after mounting your database only u can open it.
u will get lot of info on this
