Hi,

I'd like to force oracle to start with an new alert.log and put the old one on storage.
So I think there must be a possibility to trigger this event by sql?!

Where could I find where the mark is set when to switch the log?

The other way to get rid of the old alert.log could be to move it by OS-instructions and touch a new one. Could I do that without to harm the running database?

thx for help
Holger

To switch the alert log, rename old one or move it to new location and the database will automagically create a new one the next time it writes to the alert log.

Fine. I asked because I was not sure that it wouldn't harm the living database.

thx
